What Is Involved In Our Philadelphia Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign has been proven to be equally effective as traditional braces at treating common orthodontic problems, as long as the system is used as directed. The Invisalign clear aligner system aligns teeth and helps to improve oral health by using clear, removable aligners. At your first consultation, we will use x-rays and digital impressions to create a precise 3D image of the teeth. We then build a customized aligner that is specific to each patient’s smile. These trays are designed to be switched out every 1-2 weeks to keep up with the teeth as they move into their desired new positions.

How Does Our Philadelphia Invisalign System Work?

The Invisalign system is pretty straightforward. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks, and they should only be removed to eat, drink, brush, or floss. Your teeth will move gradually as you go through the aligners in your series. At the end of the series, they will reach their final desired positions.

We’ll check and make sure treatment is progressing as planned when you visit our office. You have to change the aligners on time and wear them as directed. This is the most important element of success with your Philadelphia Invisalign. Your trays will be custom designed to fit your unique dental needs. They will need to be changed frequently in order to keep up with the movement of your teeth as they begin to straighten. Not changing aligners as scheduled or skipping your appointments can quickly undo any progress that’s been made.

This means it can be hard to say how long a patient will need to wear them before seeing results. How often must I wear my aligners?

You must wear your aligners for up to 22 hours daily. You may remove them for eating, drinking and regular oral hygiene.

Are there any restrictions to what I can eat while in treatment?

No. Unlike braces, you may eat whatever you like as long as you remove the aligners before eating. Prior to placing the aligners back on, it is important to brush your teeth and the aligners after you eat.

Will wearing hte aligners affect my speech?

Like any orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period. The more you speak with the aligners on, the quicker you will adjust.

Is there any discomfort with Invisalign treatment?

There will be some pressure and minor discomfort for a day or two after each initial insertion. This is a sign that your teeth are moving sequentially into their final position.

Can I chew gum?

It is recommended that you remove your aligners prior to chewing gum as the gum will stick to the aligners.

Can I smoke with the aligners in?

We discourage smoking with aligners as the cigarette smoke will tend to discolor them.

How do I keep my aligners clean?

Brushing them with toothpaste will keep them fresh and clean.

How often do I need an appointment while wearing Invisalign?

Regular office visits are every four to six weeks. This will ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

What happens after my treatment is complete?  Do I need retainers?

All orthodontic patients are instructed to wear their retainers at night indefinitely. Sleeping with your retainers in at night will ensure a healthy bite and maintain the new position of your teeth.
